Raina's post match Interview

Following two embarrassing losses to Zimbabwe, India fielded three debutants just to make sure they lose the crucial match against Sri Lanka. Raina when asked about the defeat.."We haven't looked good throughout the tournament. The cost of fairness creams here in Zimbabwe are sky rocketing because of inflation (lol). BCCI didn't give us enough money(lol). I am not happy at all(lol). We scored 270 but we didn't bowl well with the new ball and also with the old ball(lol). The main reason for crashing out of the tournament is tht BCCI failed to get our visas extended. So we had to leave Zimbabwe early(lol). Jokes to continue.

Year I--UPA II

Manmohan Singh is first PM since Nehru to return into power after completing a full five year term. Hes also the first sikh to hold this office. His first five year as PM saw India growing in various sectors. UPA successfully completed the first year of its second term yest(May 22). But has the Govt been able to continue its policies in its 2nd term??? The UPA has so far had a rugged path in its second term. Inflation, recession, turbulence in aviation, tackling naxalism, 3g allocation etc has created only embarrasement to the Manmohan Singh govt. Agriculture is said to be India's backbone but UPA has some serious crisis in tht sector. Food inflation is sky rocketing touching a maximum of 19%. Wheat production has created records but still the production of other essential items like cereals hav been very low making the job of the Agri Minister much more difficult. The govt has estimated a shortage of 7% in food grain production which is gonna burden the common man. The last financial year saw a negative growth in agri sector. But the govt is taking steps by promoting seed banks etc. A notable achievement of UPA II is its much needed reforms in education. Dr.Singh has made primary education a fundamental right. But the biggest challenge is haw the govt is gonna implement this ambitious project. Its gonna require more trained teachers. It has also made class X exam optional thus reducing the burden of students. In the field of higher education UPA has decided to allow foreign universities into India. It is estimated tht India needs some 1500 more universities to provide higher education to all its citizens. Govt should ensure tht more and more ppl are enrolled every year and tht every citizen has some basic knowledge. Our FM is finding it extremely difficult to control rising food prices. In an effort to contain inflation, RBI recently hiked CRR rates. But even this has failed to contain inflation. Adding fuel to fire is the short fall in tax collection. But FM is banking on his tax policies to increase the inflow. The govt has given tax concessions to corporates instead of giving it to the common man. The telecom sector has been seeing turbulence in the past one year with the opposition parties accusing IT & Telecom minister to malpractices in auctioning of 3g and 2g spectrum. Though 3G spectrum earned a whopping 70k crores its said tht govt lost some 60k crores in 2G spectrum allocation. The Singh govt has ordered for an enquiry by the CBI. Aviation field has been seeing downs for the past one year post recession. Every single airline was reporting negative profits. They expected govt to announce a bailout plan but the govt bailed our state owned Air India alone. In the previous term Delhi and Mumbai airports were privatized in spite of opposition from many parties. But now even being comfortable in terms of nos in the Parliament, the govt is yet to go ahead with its privatization drive. No new announcements were made on green field airports. It would be correct if i say much of Aviation minister's time was devoted in reconstructing Air India. The biggest problem UPA has been facing is its policy in tackling naxalism. PC has been cricised for his way of handling naxals and maoists. Recently 75 CRPF jawans were killed in a naxal attack. Though the govt has been a bit successful in combating external threats, it seems tht it is still undecided on issues relating to maoists. It would be better if the Govt comes up with some better action plan before the ppl lose patience. UPA has been doing better in energy sector. Its biggest achievement would be the commence of crude oil production from Oil fields in Rajasthan and gas from KG basin. But the govt is yet to establish the Parikh Committee which recommends freeing fuel prices. The govt is planning to generate 80000MW of power in the 11th five year plan. Its a fact tht to achieve 9% growth, power and energy sector has to deliver. The govt has promised reforms in health sector which is yet to take shape. The govt is concentrating on infrastructure development. Highways minister wants to lay 20km of road every day. To achieve this the govt has been promoting Public-Private Partnerships. The govt plans to set up an 50000cr infrastructure fund to encourage private investment in the sector. The govt is keen in achieving its target. Although the Govt is not upto its expectations in many fields, one shouldnt forget the fact tht only one year is over and tht they hav 4 more years left. So lets hope the UPA performs better in the coming years and make India self sustained in every single field.

Miss U my DEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 13, 2010. This date holds significance in my life. Yes its on this day tht me and my friends were together in coll enjoying. Yes!!! am talking about my close friends- AKSHAY, NITESH, SATISH KUMAR and NITIN who are leaving MIT to continue their final year in European Universities. . AKSHAY- Ak as hes fondly called is the one whos been my close friend from day 1 of my coll. Hes the one who makes our classes interesting with his kodoora mokkais. Nitesh(Treasurer) has taught me so many things in life. He has supported my at times of distress; he has stood by my side whenever i was in trouble; he lent a helping hand whenever i was in atmost need. If i hav to write about him i can write a book; he has done so much to me. I can never forget the support he gives me while organizing things-- if it werent him we wouldnt hav gone for Industrial Visits. When most of my friends deserted me during 2nd IV he was the one who stood by my side; he was the one who came along with Jimmy to main campus to get our letters signed by the registrar. He'll accompany me every action of mine- even if its leaving the exam hall early. Hes been so helpful to me. Satish-- Tyre Iyer Myre Kair these are all his pet names. Hes one intelligent guy who can kill others with his kalachufying stuff. I didnt like him in my early days but slowly he became close and now hes a part and parcel of my life. Nitin- Mallu as we call him is a silent killer. He never talks but studies well. Watever it is these 4 ppl were unique in their own ways. They made my life cheerful and my coll days the most memorable in my life. I'll surely miss; very badly i would say but as u know WHATEVER IT IS LIFE SHOULD MOVE ON. All the best my dear friends. Hope u taste success in whatever u do. Best of luck!!!!!!

Am Back!!!!!!

GENDER POLITICS!!!!!!!!

India creates history! Yes for the first time in history Indian politicians have showed this world a new form of politics-Gender politics. I still dont understand how media called it a red lettered day etc etc. What wonders me is tht already the much needed talented people are leaving India because of reservation and all tht stuff. The only thing to cheer about in this bill is tht the reservation is applicable only for Parliamentary seats and not in any science activity or research(lol). The bill says 1/3 of total seats in Parliament is reserved for women. But my sincere doubt is 'Is this really needed?' Y cant women fight and try to win all the 545 seats in the Parliament?? Every day i read news of women being harassed in their work place or somewhere. When women are not even able to roam freely what is the point in having a reservation for them? And this is gonna make all inexperienced women come into politics. For ex. in a particular constituency if Mr. X is supposed to contest and later if tht particular constituency is gonna be reserved for women tht Mr.X wont allow any women from his party to contest. Instead hes gonna make Mrs.X contest and tht Mrs.X is just gonna nod her head to whatever Mr.X says. Dont think tht such things dont happen. Think what happened in Bihar. When Lalu was thrown out he made Mrs.Lalu the CM of Bihar. The sad part is Mrs.Lalu doesnt know to sign also. What is the point in having such women in politics? This reservation is gonna create more and more problems. I dont think ordinary women will be empowered because of this bill. The biggest highlight is certain parties are asking for reservation for women belonging to Scheduled Caste and other backward castes. One thing is very clear. If u wanna learn politics or learn how to get votes(not thrgh fair means) better be a politican in India.

Budget 2010

Mr.Finance Minister has successfully presented his 5th successive budget yest in the Parliament. First i would like to appreciate him for presenting a bit balanced budget. Its actually quite difficult to prepare budget for a country like India. Whatever lets discuss the ups and downs. Govt's spending on health care, defense, agriculture, renewable energy has gone up which is actually appreciable. In the same time Mr.Finance Minister has increased the tax on crude oil increasing petrol and diesel prices. In fact this is going to create more and more problems. The country is already suffering with high inflation. Increase in fuel prices will lead to increase in price of commodities. What i feel is the Government should hav tied to contain inflation and then increased the fuel prices may be some months later. But one should also remember the fact tht the oil companies are already suffering under huge loss and they are no more ready to take this burden. This is the case with cement pricing also. Next, Dr.FM has reduced tax on solar panels, increased spending on agriculture, and has allocated more for renewable sources. This is really a wonderful move. Whenever increasing crude prices we should get reminded of the fact tht India is deprived of fossil fuels and we should try to conserve fuel as much as possible. Mr.FM has also reduced tax on CFL . Mr.FM has also reduced the tax burden greatly. Then FM has increased tax on cigars and large cars, MUVs and SUVs. Mr.FM also has increased his allocation for defense. This is also a welcome move given the fact tht our armed forces need to ever ready to face the growing threats. The Budget also aims to control fiscal deficit. And as expected budget has benefited farmers i would say. Now drought hit farmers can delay their payments by six months. May be FM could have waived off their loans but the fact is what ever he does it should reach the beneficiaries and not the middle man. In the fertilizer front, Mr.FM has said tht the Nutrient Based Subsidy policy for fertilizers is to become effective from April 2010. Mr.FM has said he would spend to spread Green Revolution in the eastern parts of India. Then it is to be noted tht Mr.FM has concentrated on Banking and infrastructure development. RBI is proposing to issue new licenses to private banks. FM has allocated almost 46% of total plan allocations for infrastructure development. Mr.FM wants to lay at least 20km of highways a day; but i feel this requires complete re-planning of existing policies. He has also promised to improve rural infrastructure. Mr.FM has also promised that first set of UID nos will be rolled out next year as per the schedule. He has also said that INR will have a unique symbol. It is actually quite difficult to prepare a budget for a complex economy like that of India's. But according to me Mr.FM has done a relatively good job. The markets also have given a thumps up; sensex gained 300 points. Whatever we'll have to wait and watch if the Government is able to achieve their target.

From Corporates to Governance!!!!

We all know India is developing at an appreciable rate. But wat brought these changes? How did India manage to grow in-spite of recession all tht stuff??? The answer to all ur questions is simple- by including corporates in decision making. Yes! when India's reserves were just enough for a week it was Dr.Manmohan Singh who opened India's markets paving way for FDIs. Thus India's economy was saved. But who was Dr.Singh earlier. A Corporate. Its this corporate world which is changing the face of India. A man called Dhirubhai Ambani taught wat share market means. But at present many corporates hav left their business and hav taken up ambitious government posts- Nandan Nilekani of Infosys heads UID project. Arun Maira has been appointed as a member of the Planning Commission. Shailesh Gandhi has been appointed the Central Information Commissioner. Capt. Raghu Raman heads the National Intelligence Grid. All these ppl were busy with their own business before teaming up with Dr.Singh. But the culture of bringing in corporates was introduced by Rajiv Gandhi who supported Dr.Singh. Later Dr.Singh was made the Finance Minister in the Narasimah Rao regime during which liberalization brought a drastic change in India. Arun Maira was on a vacation when Dr.Singh called him and offered him a post in Planning Commission. It was Union Minister Prithviraj Chauhan who called Shailesh and requested him to be the Central Information Commissioner. Dr.Singh himself called Nandan Nilekani and appointed him the head of the UID project. Its a matter of proud tht these ppl have sacrificed their own interests for their country. One would say such a sacrifice is obvious but given the fact tht millions and millions of intelligent minds leave this country these ppl hav opted to stay back and contribute something to the country. I take this as an opportunity to stress tht even if we go abroad we should come backa nd contribute constructively for our mother land.

United States of INDIA!!!

We all know the recent developments in Andhra Pradesh. I decided to write this just to spread the reality- to create awareness among ppl- at least among my friends who visit my blog regularly. I recently happened to read in The Hindu tht heads of IT Cos in Hyderabad met TRS's leader and pleaded him to allow them to work peacefully. But is this really necessary?? Think what hes doing to win Telengana. Hes burning buses; not allowing railways to function smoothly. One should remember tht TRS has nothing to AP; they didnt help in buying one single bus to burn them. All buses and trains were bought with people's money, with the taxes they pay. If one is really interested in the welfare of the common man he should look into their problems as his own instead of damaging public property like what is happening in AP. What is point in shutting down shops and business?? I would like to bring to the reader's notice tht the CII meeting which was to be held in Hyderabad was shifted to Chennai because of this and the ultimate loser was AP because investors said NO to unstable AP. The next blunder which added oil to fire was center's decision to grant Telengana. But later the UPA govt went back on their decision. If they had granted separate Telengana it would hav set a bad example. Many parts of India would hav asked for separate states- Gorkhaland from WB, Vidarbha from MH, Coorg from KA(lol), then dividing UP into three parts and Mr.Ramadoss's call for dividing TN into two. One should rememder tht dividing states is not an solution at all. Its just gonna create hell a lot of problems. India is predominantly an agricultural country; dividing India will increase water disputes among states. Then the problem and cost involving in setting up a separate assembly, pays and perks to their governers etc etc the list goes on. But its a fact tht these regions ( Telengana, Vidarbha etc) are all lagging in terms on development. Its a known fact tht parties playing cheap politics hav lost heavily in elections. PMK of TN couldnt even win a seat in Parliamentary elections. TRS also lost heavily in AP. These parties should know tht separate state is not in the minds of ppl. Instead they should start working for the upliftment of these regions. They can help in spreading Govt's welfare schemes so tht every individual is befitted. Vidharbha has the highest no of farmer suicides in the country. The parties there can try and educate farmers there and give them moral support so tht can continue farming instead of killing themselves. This is the case with Telengana also. Its a fact tht most parts of Telengana except Hyderabad are lagging way behind. One should remember tht even after separating Jharkhand from Bihar, it hasnt grown much. Neither has Uttarakhand showed any growth. Special economic packages should be of help to these regions and these parties should make sure tht the benefits of such packages reach every comman man and not to some ppl's bank accounts. So political parties fighting for their own selfish reasons should realize tht ppl are not going to tolerate their stupid actions anymore and start working really for the ppl's welfare.

Invincible ISRO

"There are some who question the relevance of space activities in a developing nation. To us, there is no ambiguity of purpose. We do not have the fantasy of competing with the economically advanced nations in the exploration of the moon or the planets or manned space-flight. But we are convinced that if we are to play a meaningful role nationally, and in the community of nations, we must be second to none in the application of advanced technologies to the real problems of man and society."-Dr.Vikram Sarabhai.
A church in a Trivandrum was doing some unusual job which other churches didn't even think of. There were no prayers to God. There was no priest in the church. But there were men of wisdom working for hours together. Yes! its the Thumba Space Station! This Church was the place which housed ISRO's space research initially. Sounding rockets were fired from this place to investigate the upper atmosphere. ISRO as an organization was established on August 15,1969 by one of the greatest souls- Dr.Vikram Sarabhai who is also known as the Father of Indian Space Technology. But the base to all these were laid by the great Dr.Homi Bhabha, the first Chairman of Department of Atomic Energy. Intensive research by some dedicated young men led to the development of SLV, ASLV and later the PSLV and GSLV. In the early years bullock carts and cycles were used to carry satellites and launch vehicle parts to the launch pad. PSLV is used to carry a payload of upto 1600kg. PSLV allowed India to launch IRS satellites into sun synchronous orbit. Before the advent of PSLV, the option of placing satellites in SSO was available only with the Russians. PSLV also has an impressive success record. It recently placed 10 satellites in a single launch. The record was previously held by the Russians. India successfully tested its nuclear capability in 1974 after which the world countries imposed sanctions on India. But a relentless India continued its indigenous research and successfully tested its Cryogenic Engine- which is essential for GSLV. GSLV is used to place heavier communication satellites(2500kg). Currently GSLV III is under development which will enable ISRO lift much heavier satellites. A modified version of PSLV took India into the select league of nations which have entered lunar orbit. India became the 4th country after US, Russia, Japan to place its flag on the Lunar surface. Now Chandrayaan II is under development. To add feather to its cap, ISRO successfully showed to the world tht it can send humans to space and bring them safely back to earth. SRE I or Space capsule Recovery Experiment successfully splashed down in the Bay of Bengal after being in space for 12 days. ISRO is now constructing its own astronaut training facility in Bangalore. With two launch pads already in operation, a third one is now under construction. India intends to send probes to Mars using its GSLV III. ISRO's ground tracking stations are situated in many parts of India and in Mauritius, Russia and Indonesia. Recently ISRO tested world's third largest rocket motor, S-200 from its testing center in Sriharikota. ISRO also has set up its own university, IIST in Trivandrum. Antrix Corporation is ISRO's marketing agency. India is making steady progress in almost all fields and ISRO is leading India in the field of space technology. But its a fact tht ISRO has a long way to go. Itseems tht the launch pads in Sriharikota failed and tht this delayed the launch of GSLV II which was scheduled for December 2009. This GSLV also was supposed to use the indigenously made cryogenic engine for the first time. Without much support from developed countries ISRO is able to make wonders. So lets all salute ISRO and its efficient scientists who are making India proud in every possible way.

Incredible INDIA!!!!

"We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made!".These incredible words of Albert Einstein is enough to explain how great India is. Home to one of the oldest civilizations- Indus Valley Civilization, it has given rise to many wonders; greatest of them being Ahimsa founded by the greatest soul of our times- Mahatma Gandhi.Covering an area of 32,87,263 sq. km its bounded by snow covered Himalayas in the north and mighty Indian ocean in the south. After years of British Rule India gained her Independence in 1947. India became a sovereign democratic Republic from 1950, Jan 26. India is also the 7th largest country in the world with 28 states and 7 union territories. India is also the land of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism. India's Constitution is the longest in the world. The Legislature of India is the bicameral Parliament, with the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. After its Independence India played a greater role in fighting for the Independence of many African and Asian countries from their European masters. India also liberated East Pakistan and saved Maldives from a coup(1988). India is also the founding member of NAM. Lemme post some of the interesting facts here.
Second Largest Army.
Fifth Largest Navy.
Fourth Largest Air Force.
DRDO makes the world's first supersonic missile BrahMos.
Nuclear Weaponry State.
10th in the world and 4th in Asia in plant diversity.
47000 species of plants.
15000 species of Vascular Flora with 35% of them found only in India.
One of the fastest growing economies.
World's second largest work force.
12th largest economy.
These are some of the achievements India has made. But its a fact tht we Indians hav a long way to go. Lets all pledge tht we'll surely take India to the top in the years to come.

China or India??!!!

In the year 1960 a small island nation of Japan was at the center stage with its growth at 10% . It was believed then that Japan was going to over take US soon. But in the subsequent years the growth soared with 5% in 1970s and 4% in 1980s. Recently Japan slipped in recession. Its national carrier JAL is filing for bankruptcy. What led to its downfall??? In the 60s Japananese had some of the highest bank balances. Loans were easily available and ofcourse the loan amount available were also huge. With cash easily available ppl started investing in its stock market and in real estate. Tokyo's stock exchange was at its peak with Nikkei trading at 38915 and a sq. ft of land in Tokyo as high as $93,000. The result- inflation. This devalued its currency. By 2004 the cost of land was just 1% of its peak. Millions and millions of dollars were lost in this boom. The stock market also collapsed. Investments were very little and consumption reduced greatly which resulted in deflationary pressure. Still banks were lending loans. The easy availability of loans also could not prevent the deflation. Now ppl were in search of some investment avenue which would give them considerable returns but everything was out of control. The prices began to appreciate but recession began to have its impact. In 2008 Nikkei was trading at 7000s. Lets come to 2010. China is the talk of the town now. Recent numbers suggest that China's $4.9 trillion economy has overtaken Japan's economy of $4.6trillion to become the world's second largest economy. But its local consumption is just one-third of its economy while India's is twice that of China's. India's consumption is two-third of its economy. Most of China's growth has come from infrastructure spending. Chinese have been asked to save as much as possible. Chinese inflation is also sky rocketing although its less compared to the world. China has also deliberately undervalued its currency against USD and Euro. In China all the profits are with the state owned companies with private companies starving for money while in India its just the opposite. This has made the life of a common China man no different where as Indians are continuously increasing their bank balance which is encouraging local spending. No of Indians in middle class is 300mn while tht of China's is something around 100mn. This middle class in quite important in maintaining a constant local demand. A report says that China's poverty has doubled while that of India's has come down by 50%. Rural India accounts for almost 50% of India's GDP up from its previous share of 40%. Rural India is growing at a faster pace than tht of urban India. While in China its just the opposite with 1/3 of total GDP and the rural growth is just 15%. And more over most of the Indian firms concentrate on rural India unlike their Chinese counterparts. India's Bharthi Airtel has the world's cheapest tariffs with TATA MOTORS making the world's cheapest car. China has left most of its rural areas in hanging. Anyway predictions have gone wrong most of the time. So lets wait and watch wats there for the future.

India, Afghanistan and the World

Afghanistan- When we hear this word the very first thing which comes in our mind is Taliban and Osama bin Laden. But after the US invasion of Afghanistan things hav changed a lot; and ofcourse relations with other countries also hav changed especially with its regional neighbour- India. Recently a poll conducted BBC, American Broadcasting Corporation and German Broadcasting Corporation has found tht INDIA(71%) is the most preferred nation among the Afghans with Germany coming next followed by the US. This is something obvious i would say; for the development activities tht India has pledged in the war ravaged country. Even history suggests tht India was a good friend of Afghanistan. But fortunes changed when Taliban took over Afghanistan after the cold war. Now again India has become a trust-able ally. This evident from the development works undertaken by India in Afghanistan. Soon after the war India was the first regional country to provide a monetary relief of 750mn USD. India's BRO is constructing roads in many provinces. India also trains its civil servants, police dept. India is helping Afghanistan build thermal power plants and develop the power grid in the country, It is also helping in constructing its airport. India is also training Afghan's diplomats. India is providing power to Afghan villages by setting up Solar Power Plants. Kabul's 24 hour power supply is due to the transmission lines laid by India. MOUs hav been signed between these countries to enable co operation in various fields such as education military health and telecommunications. India also supports Afghan's bid for a membership in SAARC. India is also building a new Parliament building in Kabul, the Afghan capital. Becoming no 1 is not something which can be bought in grocery shop. Rightly India's unparalleled help has enabled it to win the hearts of Afghans.

IPL Auction III

Today(19/01/2010), the third auction for the cricketing megafest IPL began. At the end of the day Pakistan players remained unsold. I still dont understand wat prevented the IPL team owners from buying some of the most talented cricket players from Pakistan. Pollard has earned himself a ransom. May be the recent stand-offs between both the Govts prevented the team owners from buying them. But one thing both the countries should know is only if we start talking we'll know each others problems. Both the countries should come forward and try to work towards a amicable solution; this should tell the forces which are trying to de stabilise both the nations tht their intentions will never come true. Both the countries hav great potential which can be tapped only if we are together. So the policy makers should realise all these and encourage activities which will bring harmony. Lets wish IPL's auction will lead both the nations in turning a new leaf.

Me and Akshay and Chandrayaan I

Lemme introduce who Akshay is. Hes my classmate and a close friend of mine. We had a very hot discussion today wen my Digital Communication teacher was taking class. He said Chandrayaan I was utter waste of money. But i dont blame Akshay also. Hes actually ignorant like the millions of fellow Indians. Chandrayaan I is a great achievement for a country like India. Inspite of being denied of all latest technologies India was able to prove to the western powers tht we are competent enough;probably they would hav learnt tht India is a country to watch out for. Lemme share wat n all Chandrayaan I achieved. It planted India's flag on Lunar Surface.India is the 4th country to do so. It also found traces of water on moon. Our launch vehicle achieved its target in its very first launch. It also proved tht we can also carry out longer missions like the ones to Mars or even Jupiter. The success of Chandrayaan I has encouraged India to prepare for its next mission Chandrayaan II which will carry a Rover to land on Lunar Surface. So lets all feel proud of this achievement instead of misleading others.
